VHTO makes an effort in many different ways to increase the participationt of women and girls in science and technology education, the technological employment market and government policy. At VHTO, my responsibilities include: - Project coordination of a pilot intervention to prevent/reduce stereotyping in early childhood. - Organizing meetings with key stakeholders from higher education institutions to exchange best practices regarding policy on gender & Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM); - Collaborating with the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO),the Ministry of Education, and other partners to set up a policy framework in the Netherlands to increase the participation of women in STEM; - Writing national and European grant applications to support and sustain the work of VHTO. - Keeping track of the scientific research on gender & STEM, and communicating the findings to support the work of VHTO with the latest scientific knowledge. I am currently also teaching the course Special Topics in Cognitive Science, a year-long course for masters students in the research Master of Brain and Cognitive Science. The aim of the class is to teach students the necessary skills to become an researcher in cognitive neuroscience, such as critical thinking, identifying assumptions underlying research, interdisciplinary collaboration, debating, presenting, writing a review for a scientific paper, etc.
