[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Uwe HAASS obtained a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from Karlsruhe University in 1975 and received a PhD for his work on computerised analysis of cloud motion from satellite pictures from Colorado State University in 1980. In 1981 he joined the Fraunhofer Institute IITB in Karlsruhe to develop computer vision for improving the safety of human workers within the work space (“the cage”) of industrial robots. In 1985 he accepted the offer of the European Commission to become a Project Officer in the ESPRIT program, responsible for the management of projects in Artificial Intelligence and Pattern Recognition. In 1990 he was given the post of the General Manager for the Bavarian Research Center of Knowledge-based Systems (FORWISS). In 1997, Dr Haass was appointed the Director of FWU, Germany’s largest producer of educational media for schools active in the development of pedagogical multimedia and “educational media on-demand”. In 2007, Dr Haass became General Manager of the Munich-based Cluster of Excellence “CoTeSys – Cognition for Technical Systems” with 5 research organisations and 45 principal investigators in the Munich region working on cognitive robotics. From March 2013 to January 2016, Dr Haass served as Secretary-General of the then newly established, Brussels-based European robotics association euRobotics AISBL, the contractual partner of the European Commission in the European robotics programme SPARC. Since his retirement on 1 February 2016, he is working as a freelancing consultant.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
